Log In Register Now! What Glue Works Best on Felt? Does hot glue work on felt? Fabric glue? Learn the best options in our handy guide. Tacky Glue Tacky glue is a tried and true classic for gluing felt.
Hot Glue Hot glue is a personal favorite adhesive! Permanent Glue A permanent glue like super glue or E is another option for adhering felt. Fabric Glue Any fabric glue is bound to be a wonderful option, and this comes very highly recommended by many felt enthusiasts! Adhesives to Avoid The number one adhesive to avoid is ordinary white craft glue. Alternatives to Adhesives If your project doesn't necessarily require an adhesive, you might want to try another method of holding the pieces of felt together.
If you want to do this even older school, get a large sheet of paper and draw a cartoon body on it. Cut it out with scissors and go on to the next step.
This step is very important, as this is the technique I'll use for the remainder of this instructable. You use this" print, cut, trace, and cut" method to cut out precise shapes in the felt. Roll out a piece of fabric. Place the assembled tiled printout of the first character on the fabric. Using a fabric marker, trace the shape onto the felt. When you are finished, very carefully, cut out the shape with very sharp fabric scissors.
Do this for each character on the felt board. I will include templates at the end to print out the characters seen in this instructable. Mine are named "Pinkerella" and "Orangina". Before attaching the characters with glue, lay the frame down and position the characters where you want them. At this point you can still make adjustments. I spaced them evenly so that each of my children could work on a character at the same time.
Once they are in place, hold the fabric up small sections at a time while applying fabric glue. I mostly concentrated on the edges. Be careful, as this part is unforgiving. If any glue hits the fabric you'll see it regardless of how hard you try to clean it off , so take your time attaching the characters to the frame.
All done! Kidding, now the real fun starts! I did all of the clothing in an illustration program, but the face parts I just cut out random shapes in fabric. The technique is the same for the rest of this instructable as it was for creating the body. I draw out shapes on paper, or design them in an illustration program and print them out.
I felt that the succulent frame needed more color for sure and while I wanted to paint them I controlled the urge and instead die cut a few different colored leaves. How beautiful are these designs? Finally, I adhered all the felt succulents on a wood frame and then tucked the leaves around the edges.
Thank you, Tammy Tutterow for providing me with the lovely dies for this project! I just purchased a felt craft kit and I am going to get this felt glue. This I is my first time working with felt so I appreciate the timely tip. Felt is such a fun craft material to craft with! Layer the felt die cuts one atop of another and press down lightly but firmly. I was scared to press too hard and have too much glue squeeze out and create a mess.
So I opted to use a toothpick at times and scoop out the glue onto the felt.
