Godse had been a member of the RSS, and even though the party disowned him after the murder, there is a group of the extreme Hindu right-wingers who still consider him as some sort of incarnation who got rid of the evil Mahatma: and the Hindu Right is extremely influential in the corridors of power right now.
This is the statement Nathuram Godse made in court during his trial for the murder of Gandhi. It was rumoured to be extremely eloquent and influential: the presiding judge reportedly said that if the audience were the jury, they would have acquitted Godse. So after such a compelling testimonial, I was all agog to read it, to understand the irrefutable arguments why the murder of an old man was essential for the preservation of India and Hinduism.
Well, folks, I must tell you it turned out to be one damp squib. Mind you, had Godse entitled this "Why I oppose Gandhi" and used it as an electioneering pamphlet, I would have some points of agreement with him and many more on which I could understand his point of view even if I didn't agree. However, as justification for murder, one cannot accept any kind of eloquence. Gandhi was a bit of a weirdo and highly impractical in some of his views, this much I can agree with him.
The remaining arguments, about India being a Hindu nation and the idea of Muslims are invaders and killers, directly derived from Savarkar's Hindutva, I can understand if not sympathise.
Nathuram was a dyed-in-the-wool Hindu nationalist, the likes of who are very common in India today, and his arguments are all familiar: Muslims are alien to our country and violent, Gandhi gifted India to the Muslims through his appeasement, he allowed the British and Jinnah to partition the country These are the standard arguments of the saffron brigade even today, and it is based on their flawed reading and deliberate political falsification of history.
Reading this statement, one can understand how Godse had been brainwashed into pinpointing Gandhi as the devil incarnate and marking him worthy of elimination.

And then was Godse who boasts of his profound love for Hinduism and Hindus but nothing of other minorities. I mean, anyone can see that Godse was filled with hatred towards a significant population. How can someone spewing hatred from his heart influence any sane person?

This book was finally published after the court intervened. It gives a great insight into the way Godse thought and the events leading to the assasination. A good read for anyone who wants to know more about the historical background and the socio cultural context of the incident. An amazing book! Nathuram Godse had his reasons to assassinate Mahatma. I can't judge them. Reading this book, it feels that those reasons were pretty logical; but then I haven't read much about Gandhiji.
Basically I don't know if Nathuram Godse was right or not but what I know is that he was a great soul; confident at his convictions and yet at the same time flexible enough to accept the truth even if it possibly shattered all his beliefs on which he based his entire life.

Indian history was written by Congress and therefore there is no room given to anything that is against them. Current day politics is still on the same lines. This's really a good book. It's written in an abstractedly manner. Founding a solution out of the absurd situation they had. View 1 comment. His failure of all three movements he either started or participated is well known. His pro-Muslim and anti-Hindu philosophy is what is the basis of today's so called Seculars Sick-ulars. I'm not anti-Muslims but rather than looking into problems on both sides, history has the occasions when he knowingly looked away from atrocities being levied on Hindus in particular.
The flawed Gandhian principal is still in existence. This is what is destroying idea of India. India is plural, I have always accepted this as a fact and I'm proud of it. But idea of India says, 'all are equal, be it of any community', 'no special favors to any community' and 'development of everyone equally'.

Why we were never told why he killed Gandhi? Let the people decide whether he was right or wrong. For several years these writings or statements were under ban. People should know about the killing. Both the intelligent class and mass which were kept in dark came to know of the stand of Godse. They also came to know that he had not denied the charge of assassinating Gandhi.
Jawarharlal Nehru was the prime minister of India at that time. On his directions, state after state banned the publication of his statement, in part or in full. After hearing the statement of Godse. No sooner the judges returned to their chambers, the police pounced on the press reporters, snatched their note books and tore them into pieces. Banning or hiding the portions of history is no solution.
Just remember there are always two sides to every story. And most the time no one is completely innocent. Just don't ever second guess it. Most of us knew only one sided truth but if someone wants to discover another side, this is the book.
I was enlightened by the information provided in this book. I am not against Gandhi but undoubtedly blinded by his ideology of non-violence he made many large mistakes which has been deliberately hidden from public knowledge. One more thing there is 9 pages kindle version of this book, don't read that one. Entire statement is more than pages. So buy that one which has around pages. However, whatever be the reasons, killing someone for a difference of opinion is not at all acceptable. Holding a ban on the publication of his statement may not be only for a political reason, albeit to suppress encouraging these kind of violent thoughts. After reading: This is a must read. Brainwash or no brainwash, should be left upto the individual to decide.
However, the statements presented by Nathuram Godse are very detailed and give a clear insight on his intentions. It was a well thought execution, with full awareness of its consequences. He has addressed Gandhiji with respect in spite of having major difference in opinion. He did try to hold peaceful protests against the Gandhian notion. Going for a fast and twisting the arm of government body, thereby crippling democracy may be termed as non-violence, but this act hindering prevention of mass massacre is by no means non-violent!

This work from the accused of Gandhi's assassination deeply cleared the reason for why he should have done that. The time when every sort of Indian trying to get rid of British rule in India, this Bluff-master kept trying his ill instincts to rule the country rather than helping to let us be a free nation. If he was really old then why he didn't ask for any young boy to help him move rather than young girls, this shows how pervert he was. Letting the British drag Indians to ww1 and ww2 even if it wasn't our war and we really needed to focus on our freedom strategies was something I didn't support. Losing lives to just keep something whole isn't worth it. Godse was discarded by RSS after the assassination. But nothing that Godse said, justifies committing a murder. Godse was found mentally sane and was executed in November, in Ambala. Now, the decision to read or not read this banned book lies solely on the person. Do you want to carry an untarnished version of Gandhiji? Then don't. These are just views. I as a person will be considered good by some and bad by some.
